Autobouwer Toyota heeft de productie in haar Venezolaanse fabriek weer opgestart na een productiestop van zes maanden. De herstart is van groot belang voor het in Zuid-Amerikaanse land dat in een diepe recessie verkeert.
Het bedrijf sloot de fabriek vanwege een tekort aan contant geld en onderdelen.

Venezuela zucht al geruime tijd onder een zware crisis. Meerdere bedrijven, waaronder Kimberly Clark, Procter & Gamble en Ford legden hun activiteiten al stil.

De autoproductie van Toyota liep in het eerste halfjaar van 2016 terug met 86 procent vanwege de tekorten. De meeste auto-onderdelen moeten geïmporteerd worden.

Inmiddels worden de Toyota-modellen Corolla, Hylux en Fortuner weer gemaakt in de fabriek. Vanaf begin 2017 moet de export van de auto’s weer op gang komen, evenals de binnenlandse verkoop.

Noodtoestand
