Het dataverbruik via de oudere 3G-netwerken is in Nederland afgenomen. Het aantal verbruikte MB's via 4G-netwerken stijgt nog wel.
In het eerste kwartaal van 2016 werd nog zo'n 12,5 petabyte (12,5 miljard MB) aan data via 3G-netwerken verzonden, blijkt vrijdag uit de nieuwste Telecommonitor van de Autoriteit Consument & Markt (ACM).

Het dataverbruik via de nieuwere 4G-netwerken steeg naar ruim 22 petabyte, een relatief kleine toename. Het 4G-dataverbruik was in de laatste maanden van 2015 al relatief hoog, omdat verschillende providers toen acties hielden met gratis MB's.

Op de breedbandmarkt hebben veel Nederlanders een snelheidsverhoging meegemaakt aan het begin van het jaar. Inmiddels heeft 32 procent van de huishoudens een downloadsnelheid van minstens 100 Mbps, waar dat een kwartaal eerder nog 21 procent was. Dat heeft te maken met een snelheidsverhoging van Ziggo.

Het aantal huishoudens met een downloadsnelheid van onder de 10 Mbps daalde juist fors, naar 3 procent. Een kwartaal eerder was dat nog 14 procent. Dat komt door veranderingen in de DSL-markt, waar KPN verreweg de grootste provider is.
